Frank Capasso, Artist

With over two decades of experience as an art educator and related arts supervisor of school districts in New Jersey, this professional artist later relocated to the Wilmington, North Carolina area, where he worked from his home studio to produce pieces in acrylics, monotypes, mixed media and his innovative approach to embossed printing, which is coined "Mixography". He received his BA in Art Education from Montclair (NJ) and an MA in Fine Arts from William Paterson (NJ). His work has been exhibited along the eastern coast of the U.S. and has been featured in galleries around New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, and also in the Wilmington, North Carolina area.

Mr. Capasso was an Adjunct Professor at North Hampton Community College, Monroe Campus, Tannersville, PA, instructing Art History and Drawing classes. He had a similar role at the Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Capasso also was a member of the Monroe County Arts Council (MCAC) and was a former member of its Board of Directors, as well as a former director of the MCAC Artspace Gallery, a non-profit cooperative gallery located on North Seventh Street in Stroudsburg, PA, where his work was frequently exhibited. He was active with the Brunswick Arts Council (Brunswick County, NC). In addition, he provided private instruction at his home studio.

 
 

Mr. Capasso was selected for entry in several juried Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina shows, and received a wide variety of awards throughout his career, most recently 1st Place at the Brunswick County Art Festival in Southport, NC. His work has been enthusiastically sought after by collectors. One collection of paintings at Artspace was titled "Styles and Expressions". Other exhibits there included a beautiful collection of block prints and "drip paintings" and an exhibit of vibrantly colored abstract paintings spotlighting musicians and their instruments. Another collection titled "Miniatures and Small Works" was exhibited at the Spectrum Gallery in Wilmington, NC. A selection of his paintings in a variety of styles was included in the "Matters of the Heart" exhibit at the Artworks Fine Art Gallery, Wilmington. His work was also shown at Bottega Art & Wine Gallery in Wilmington, as well as a 2009 show at Montage Gallery in Wilmington, as part of the "Fourth Friday" series.
